Best Mexican & Tex-Mex Brunch in Austin
Tamale House
Tamale House is one of the oldest restaurants in Austin (since 1958) with the best tamales and migas in the city. All the tamales are made from scratch — the pork and chicken are my favorites but the bean is really good too. Make sure you add one of their homemade sauces — the pork tamale smothered with mole sauce is my favorite. You also have to get Mom’s migas and queso — fresh eggs scrambled with pan-fried corn tortillas, queso, and salsa ranchera. Tamale House also serves margaritas on the rocks and frozen with 13 different kinds of tequila.
What to order: Pork tamales with adobo sauce, chicken tamales, and Mom’s migas and queso (also good in taco form).
Hours: Saturday & Sunday from 9am – 4pm
1707 E 6th St, tamalehouseeast.com

Suerte’s brunch is one of my favorite brunch restaurants. Mexican-inspired East Austin restaurant centered on homemade tortillas with their housemade masa. I LOVED the shrimp tostada, lengua taco, migas (oh gosh, those eggs with the hollandaise sauce is heaven and I don’t even like eggs), fresh donuts, and flautas. Freshly brewed hot coffee to wake you up, micheladas and mid-morning cocktails to cure your hangover.

If you ask me for my favorite brunch in Austin, I’d say Fresa’s. Sunny day vibes while eating all the queso, sharable tacos, elotes (off-the-cob), and prickly pear frozen margaritas with salt on the rim at the colorful tables under the trees.
What to order: Chimichurri skirt steak or achiote & citrus chicken wood-grilled meal is my absolute favorite. It comes with corn tortillas, marinated jalapeño, Mexican rice, grilled onion, and charro beans.
