One of the best things about Austin is that we have a local shopping scene with many local shops to shop from. Gift shops, jewelry shops, plant shops, women boutiques, and the biggest independent book store in the state of Texas!

Keep it local by shopping local like Austinites at these local shops in Austin organized by North, South, East, Central, South Congress, and downtown Austin. You won’t find any department stores like Neiman Marcus, Macy’s, Dillard’s, or Nordstrom on this list.

There are several gift shops in Austin but Atown is one of my favorites because of the wide curated collection of local Austin gifts. Everything from women’s clothing, cards, candles, jewelry, baby gifts, and a dedicated men’s section in the back of the store.

BookPeople is the largest independent bookstore in Texas. I grew up with my nose buried half of the time in books and reading in my bookstores so there was always something magical about bookstores to me. When I published my book and BookPeople started carrying it, it was a dream come true.

You’ll feel like you stepped into the Disneyland of toys, or at least I did. This quicky, colorful toy shop sells unique toys and collectibles since 1987. Their sister shop, Yummi Joy, serves dairy-free, vegan ice cream in partnership with Sweet Ritual and all the candy.

Iconic independent music and video shop that’s been an integral part of Austin’s music scene since 1982. You can find new and used LPs, indie CDs, music, movies, books, t-shirts, and stickers.
