I love coffee – and there are so many local coffee shops in Austin. What’s your coffee order? Iced latte, Americano, flat white, or espresso?
Here’s my Austinites guide to the best coffee shops in Austin sorted by neighborhoods!
Table of Contents
Summer Moon – oh, Summer Moon and your addicting specialty coffee with moon milk. (they have other espresso drinks)
Houndstooth – Houndstooth makes a killer cup of specialty coffee. The cappuccinos here are perfection. Great spot to get some work done while you’re at The Domain.
Genuine Joe Coffeehouse – neighborhood coffee shop that has live music events, and serves specialty coffee.
Epoch Coffee – Epoch has several locations, but the one on North Loop is 24/7 and offers specialty coffee.
Hank’s – this is one of my favorite coffee shops in Austin because the coffee is so good, space is beautifully designed, and there’s lots of parking! I like getting the cafe o lait here.
Halcyon – the Halcyon in Mueller is way different from the grimy downtown location. It’s modern, filled with light and a cute color bar top. Cocktails, s’mores, and roasted coffee are also available at this location.
Sa-Tén Coffee – Sa Tén just opened a second location on Airport Blvd with their Japanese style coffee, food, and a roastery. This location has a tatami room!
Civil Goat Coffee Roasters – this is the second location of Civil Goat minus Butters the goat. The acai bowls, Cuerny Sam (2 egg omelet dressed with Cholula and honey on a toasted croissant), and their roasted coffee are really good.
Merit Coffee – at the top of my coffee list is Merit Coffee. The lattes, cappuccinos, and pour-overs, all made with their own roastery’s beans, are perfect and popular.
Bennu Coffee – I’ve spent too many late nights at Bennu, it’s open 24/7 and has a roastery on-site!
Cenote – iconic Austin coffee shop that’s in a cute little bungalow house on Ceasar Chavez with coffee and food. (wi fi is hit or miss) (1010 E Cesar Chavez St)
Houndstooth Coffee – Houndstooth has several locations in Austin but the East Austin location on MLK is my favorite because it’s spacious and they serve cocktails at this location. The coffee is pricey but the lattes and cappuccinos are really good and the MLK has strong wi fi.
Thunderbird Coffee – I like their iced Vietnamese coffee drinks
Wright Bros. Brew & Brew – you can have both coffee, beer, and fresh Rosen’s Bagels at Brew & Brew. (500 San Marcos St #105)
Sa-Ten Coffee – cute Japanese style coffee shop with Japanese inspired coffee and food like curry dishes and sandwiches.
Figure 8 Coffee Purveyors – I love getting a cup of coffee at this plant-filled coffee shop on the East side. (1111 Chicon St)
Flat Track Coffee – super cool coffee shop that’s also a bike shop.
Palamino – also by the same owner of Flat Track Coffee but with a cute minimal aesthetic with plants
Greater Goods – I love Greater Goods for their good coffee, space, and friendly baristas! The coffee roasts support various local nonprofits like Austin Pets Alive and the Central Texas Food Bank.
Fleet Coffee Co. – this tiny little coffee shop tucked away on Webberville Rd serves a mean cup of joe and Cinnamon Toast Crunch cortado
Cuvée Coffee Bar – this beloved coffee roaster has its own coffee shop in Austin with nitro cold brew and craft beers on tap
Flitch Coffee – coffee is served from a vintage trailer with a dog-friendly space
Better Half Coffee & Cocktails – this all-day cafe serves coffee, cocktails, and a food menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late night (2am on Thurs – Saturday).
Caffe Medici – another one of my favorite coffee shops in Austin with a two-story space near Cesar Chavez. They sell Tacodeli breakfast tacos.
Jo’s Coffee – every Tuesday from 5 – 8 pm for two-for-one burgers!
Alfred – located inside of The Line Hotel is this popular LA coffee shop that’s known for their iced matcha. Veracruz also has a restaurant with a walk-up window here as well.
Merit Coffee – located at The Seaholm Project next to Trader Joe’s is a San Antonio-based coffee shop that has 3 locations in Austin. Great coffee & coffee beans!
Carpenter Coffee Bar – at Carpenter Hotel

Ani’s Day & Night – super cute New Orleans inspired coffee shop with cocktails

Mañana – located inside South Congress Hotel with really good pastries, strong wi fi and cute Mexican tile. (1603 S Congress Ave)
TOMS – yup, the popular shoe brand has its own coffee shop in Austin on SoCo. With every TOMS Roasting Co. product you purchase, TOMS will help provide safe water to a person in need. One for One®.
Seventh Flag Coffee – popular coffee shop on South 1st with cozy living room vibes.
Cosmic Coffee – I love hanging out with friends over an iced coffee or cocktail at Cosmic Coffee’s dog-friendly outdoor patio. If you’re hungry, there are several food trucks parked there and live music sometimes.
Patika Coffee – Patika started off as a cute little coffee stand in downtown Austin and now it’s a poppin’ coffee spot on South Lamar Blvd with baked goods like pastries and avocado toast. Also really like the chai tea.
Radio Coffee & Beer – for those that live in South Austin, Radio Coffee is a hot spot at 4208 Manchaca Rd with a huge dog-friendly outdoor seating area. Just watch out for their no-wifi times. Come for weekend brunch from any of their parked food trailers.
