Fresa's in Austin

I use to eat at Fresa’s Chicken twice a week – that’s how obsessed I was with Fresa’s. The drive-thru on North Lamar is super convenient and Basil always gets a doggy treat at the window but I love dining on the big, colorful patio on South 1st.

Fresa’s Chicken is known, obviously for their wood-grilled chicken but their location on South 1st (1703 S 1st St) has grilled steak and grilled prawns. The fried Brussel sprouts, Mexican street corn, and grilled beets were soo good too. But most importantly, Fresa’s serves cocktails AND frozen margaritas. You can choose from prickly pear, regular, and avocado. I can’t wait for the cooler weather to hang out on their dog-friendly patio!

WHAT TO ORDER: wood-grilled chicken, fried Brussels sprouts, grilled beets, Mexican street corn, ice cream, and frozen margaritas.

Chimichurri skirt steak at Fresa's in Austin

Wood-grilled meals

Fresa’s specializes in wood-grilled meals and this is why I consistently eat at Fresa’s aside from their frozen prickly pear margarita.

  • Achiote & citrus chicken
  • Yucatan spice chicken
  • Aji-Glazed prawns
  • Chimichurri skirt steak

For all of these, you can choose from whole, half, or quarter. Served with charro beans, Mexican rice, grilled onion, marinated jalapeño, corn tortillas & salsas. Black beans & white rice also available.

I’ve had all of these and I like them all but I usually order the chimichurri skirt steak or the Achoite & citrus chicken.

While Fresa’s has breakfast tacos, tacos, and bowls, they’re just okay IMO.
