I love coffee — and there are so many great local coffee shops in Austin. What’s your coffee order? Iced latte, Americano, flat white, or espresso?
This is my Austinite’s guide to the 33 best coffee shops in Austin, sorted by neighborhood. From third-wave roasters slinging single-origin pour-overs to dog-friendly patios with cold brew on tap, Austin has built one of the country’s most exciting coffee scenes — and Food & Wine just made it official, naming Austin the No. 1 coffee city in America in their 2026 Global Tastemakers Awards. The judges loved how spread out and inventive our scene is — cafes pop up in trailers, bike shops, and bungalows, edging out longtime coffee capitals like Seattle and New York. A handful of homegrown roasters — Cuvée, Houndstooth, Merit, Civil Goat — have shaped the city’s coffee identity, and new shops keep opening every year. In the Texas heat, iced lattes and cold brews dominate, but the espresso programs at most of the spots below hold their own against any coastal city.

Best Coffee Shops in Central Austin
Hank’s
One of my favorite coffee shops in Austin because the coffee is so good, the space is beautifully designed, and there’s lots of parking. I always get the café au lait here.
Civil Goat Coffee Roasters (Central)
This is the second location of Civil Goat — minus Butters the goat. The acai bowls, Cuerny Sam (a 2-egg omelet dressed with Cholula and honey on a toasted croissant), and their roasted coffee are all standouts. There’s a parking lot, which is rare in Central Austin.
Merit Coffee (Central)
At the top of my coffee list. The lattes, cappuccinos, and pour-overs — all made with their own roastery’s beans — are perfect and popular.
Bennu Coffee
I spent too many late nights at Bennu when I was a student at UT Austin. All three Bennu locations are open 24/7, and they have a roastery on-site — perfect for late studying or early-morning meetings.
Terrible Love
Hyde Park favorite famous for the “trrbl latte” — yes, that’s how it’s spelled, and yes, you’ll see it all over Austin coffee Instagram. The minimalist branding and tucked-away Avenue B location make it feel like an insider spot. Address: 3908 Avenue B, Austin, TX 78751.
Lau Lau
Asian-inspired specialty coffee shop on Guadalupe with creative drinks you won’t find anywhere else in Austin — try the thai tea matcha, the chinese five spice cortado, or the black sesame hot chocolate. Address: 3701 Guadalupe St #106, Austin, TX.

Best Coffee Shops in East Austin
Desnudo Coffee
This tiny coffee trailer parked at Veracruz is viral for a reason. The brothers who own it are super sweet and very passionate about their coffee — and the coffee itself is amazing.
Mercado Sin Nombre
This Mexico City–inspired cafe in East Austin celebrates heirloom corn, specialty Mexican coffee, and incredible pastries. The masa twinkie has been recognized by Bon Appetit — it comes in a blue corn masa filled with a Mexican chocolate ganache, or classic yellow masa (my fav) with an orange buttercream. If you’re more of a savory person, get the biscuit sandwich. The masa pancakes are next on my list. Mercado Sin Nombre is also known for the atole cortado with piloncillo and masa milk. If you don’t like coffee, the tomate ‘pache (tomato agua fresca) is surprisingly good.
Civil Goat (East)
No Butters (the goat) at this location, but a super cute interior and dog-friendly patio. I love their acai bowls and croissant sandwich.
Cosmic Coffee — Saltillo
Cosmic Coffee’s East Austin location is HUGE and includes a taqueria. Great for a long work session or a casual hang.
Cenote
Iconic Austin coffee shop in a cute little bungalow house on Cesar Chavez, with coffee and food. (Wi-Fi is hit-or-miss — bring a hotspot if you’re working.) Address: 1010 E Cesar Chavez St.
Houndstooth Coffee (East — MLK)
Houndstooth has several locations in Austin, but the East Austin location on MLK is my favorite — it’s spacious, and they serve cocktails here. The coffee is pricey but the lattes and cappuccinos are excellent, and the MLK location has strong Wi-Fi.
The Brew & Brew
You can have coffee, beer, and fresh Rosen’s Bagels all in one stop at The Brew & Brew. Address: 500 San Marcos St #105.
Sa-Ten Coffee
Cute Japanese-style coffee shop with Japanese-inspired coffee and food — think curry dishes and sandwiches.
Figure 8 Coffee Purveyors
I love getting a cup of coffee at this plant-filled coffee shop on the East side. Address: 1111 Chicon St.
Flat Track Coffee
Super cool coffee shop that’s also a bike shop. Great vibes, especially if you’re into local Austin culture.
Palomino
Same owner as Flat Track Coffee, but with a cute minimal aesthetic and lots of plants.
Fleet Coffee Co.
Fleet has two locations in East Austin — a tiny coffee shop tucked away on Webberville Rd and a trailer on Manor Rd. Love their housemade syrups.
Flitch Coffee
Coffee is served from a vintage remodeled 1952 Spartan trailer with a dog-friendly outdoor space.

Better Half Coffee & Cocktails
This all-day cafe serves coffee, cocktails, and a full food menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late night (until 2am Thursday through Saturday).
Caffe Medici
Another favorite — a two-story space near Cesar Chavez. They sell Tacodeli breakfast tacos for the ultimate Austin morning combo.
Jo’s Coffee (Downtown)
The downtown Jo’s runs a fun deal: every Tuesday from 5–8 pm, two-for-one burgers.
Alfred
Located inside The Line Hotel, this popular LA coffee shop is known for their iced matcha. Veracruz also has a walk-up restaurant window in the same lobby.
Merit Coffee (Downtown / Seaholm)
Located at The Seaholm Project next to Trader Joe’s. Merit is a San Antonio–based coffee shop with three Austin locations now. Great coffee, baristas, and beans to take home.
Carpenter Coffee Bar
Inside the Carpenter Hotel — a beautiful, design-forward space for a flat white.
Cuvée Coffee Bar
This beloved coffee roaster has its own coffee shop in Austin with nitro cold brew and craft beers on tap.

Best Coffee Shops in South Austin
Jo’s Coffee (South Congress)
I love getting an iced turbo from Jo’s on South Congress and doing a little shopping. Tip: the I Love You So Much mural is on the side wall — it’s the most Austin photo op you can get.
Ani’s Day & Night
Super cute New Orleans–inspired coffee shop with cocktails — great vibe for a slow morning or an early evening.
Proud Mary’s
This Australian coffee shop opened on South Lamar and I keep coming back for the flat whites. They’re also known for their pour-overs, and the scrambled eggs on roti is SO GOOD. Good vibes all around.
Mañana
Located inside South Congress Hotel with really good pastries, strong Wi-Fi, and cute Mexican tile throughout. Address: 1603 S Congress Ave.
Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden (South)
I love hanging out with friends over an iced coffee or cocktail at Cosmic Coffee’s dog-friendly outdoor patio. If you’re hungry, there are several food trucks parked there, and live music on some nights.
Patika Coffee
Patika started off as a tiny coffee stand downtown and is now a poppin’ spot on South Lamar Blvd with baked goods like pastries and avocado toast. The chai tea is also excellent.
Radio Coffee & Beer
For those that live in South Austin, Radio Coffee is the hot spot at 4208 Manchaca Rd, with a huge dog-friendly outdoor area. Come for weekend brunch from any of their parked food trailers.

Best Coffee Shops in North Austin
Summer Moon
Oh, Summer Moon and your addicting specialty coffee with moon milk. (They also have other espresso drinks, but moon milk is the move.)
Houndstooth (North — Domain)
Houndstooth makes a killer cup of specialty coffee. The cappuccinos here are perfection. Great spot to get some work done while you’re at The Domain.
Genuine Joe Coffeehouse
Neighborhood coffee shop that hosts live music events and serves specialty coffee. A real local feel.
Epoch Coffee
Epoch has several locations, but the one on North Loop is open 24/7 and serves specialty coffee — the move when you need a late-night caffeine fix in North Austin.
Frequently Asked Questions About Coffee Shops in Austin
What’s the best 24/7 coffee shop in Austin?
Bennu Coffee is open 24/7 across all three of its Austin locations, and Epoch Coffee on North Loop is also 24/7. Both are popular with UT students, late-night workers, and anyone who needs caffeine at 3am.
Which Austin coffee shops are best for working with WiFi?
Houndstooth on MLK in East Austin has the strongest Wi-Fi I’ve used. Mañana inside South Congress Hotel and Mozart’s on Lake Austin are also reliable for laptop work. Avoid Cenote if you need rock-solid Wi-Fi — it can be hit or miss.
Are there dog-friendly coffee shops in Austin?
Yes — Civil Goat (East), Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden, Radio Coffee & Beer, Fleet, and Flitch Coffee all have dog-friendly outdoor spaces. Cosmic and Radio especially are known for huge patios designed for dogs and their humans.
What’s a uniquely Austin coffee drink to try?
Summer Moon’s moon milk (a sweetened, oak-roasted house syrup) is one of the most Austin-specific coffee experiences. Jo’s iced turbo (essentially a cold espresso shake) is another local classic. For something newer, try the trrbl latte at Terrible Love, the chinese five spice cortado at Lau Lau, or the atole cortado with piloncillo and masa milk at Mercado Sin Nombre.
Which Austin coffee shops have the best parking?
Hank’s in Central Austin and Civil Goat (Central) both have dedicated parking lots, which is rare in Austin’s denser neighborhoods. Most coffee shops in East Austin and South Congress rely on street parking — plan accordingly during peak hours.
What are the newest coffee shops in Austin to try in 2026?
Two of my recent favorites are Terrible Love in Hyde Park (famous for the trrbl latte) and Lau Lau on Guadalupe (creative Asian-inspired drinks like thai tea matcha and black sesame hot chocolate). Both are worth a special trip.
