The toilet story…

We are a group of “muckrakers” following our dreams. It all started when one of us was reading the manga, Dr. Slump on the toilet – and the rest is history. In the beginning, we mainly sold ice cream – a big pile of chocolate ice cream sold in containers shaped like a squat toilet. This humorous spin became a great success. After much planning from all of our partners, we finally took the first step towards realizing our dreams in May 2004 with the launch of the “Marton Restaurant”. The restaurant immediately caused a stir in Taiwan with its humorous “out-there” design. At the start, many people peered in at the restaurant trying to figure out what we were selling – then had a big smile on their face when they finally worked it out. By continuing to come up with great ideas and making improvements on old ones, we have expanded over the past few years from just ice cream into a fully-fledged theme restaurant with stores all over Taiwan. Our stores have also won the support of devoted fans as well.

Modern Toilet Restaurant

Mmmmm chocolate ice cream swirled in the shape of poo served in a toilet while you sit.. on the toilet. Now this may sound repulsive to some and to some, it may be the dream. The Modern Toilet Restaurant features a full toilet dining experience where you can well.. let yourself go.

Instead of typical restaurant furniture like chairs and tables, you will be sitting on toilet and dining over a bathtub while surrounded by bathroom tile, shower heads and feces shaped light fixtures. Be prepared to use the toilet in the restroom and wash your hands in one too..

Be ready to eat out of a toilet too! It took me a while to get over the fact that I was eating out of the toilet. That’s me in the picture above enjoying my hot pot served in a mini toilet!

Unfortunately the food does not match up to the experience. The hot pots were flavorless and watered down. The ice cream was grainy and had an odd plastic flavor. I could taste the individual ice particles if that makes sense. It was a fun one-time experience to take pictures with friends but I wouldn’t come again.

Japanese Milk Hot Pot.
Thinly sliced beef and vegetables served in a milk hot pot. Unfortunately the soup had no taste whatsoever. Literally tasted like watered down milk.

Texan Chicken.

Seafood Hot Pot.

Ice Cream.
Chocolate and vanilla ice cream swirled into the shape of poop.

The Modern Toilet Restaurant has 13 locations in Taiwan and Hong Kong and is continuously expanding. Asia features many fun themed restaurants such as hospitals and jails. Read about my visits to the Hello Kitty Restaurant and the DS Music Restaurant.
