A Taste of Koko

Last night I was the guest judge for TownePlace Suites‘ flip the grill barbecue event in celebration of their milestone 300th location in North Austin at 12427 Tech Ridge Blvd. TownePlace Suites partnered with Weber to create the ultimate grilling experience by Weber Grill Master Kevin Kolman. Two of Austin’s top pitmasters Chef Sonya Cote and Chef Evan LeRoy went head-to-head in a grill-off.

Evan LeRoy

Chef Evan LeRoy of LeRoy and Lewis, Austin’s newest school barbecue truck parked at South Congress and Pickle Rd, was the first pit master. LeRoy and Lewis is a new food truck presenting a creative style of barbecue, bridging the gap between the traditional cuisine and farm-to-table dining by focusing on sourcing local and seasonal ingredients.

Grilled Chicken

Chef Evan made grilled chicken marinated with the ramen seasoning and a ramen noodles salad with grilled vegetables and crumbled doritos.

GRILLED STEAK BY CHEF SONYA COTE

Sonya Cote

Chef Sonya Cote is the owner and chef behind Eden East and Hillside Farmacy, and now Sinclair – a farm to table restaurant in Clifton, Texas.

Grilled Steak

Chef Sonya Cote made a grilled steak with raisin reduction and grilled vegetables. Her secret weapon? Smoked wood chips to get the steak that authentic barbecue flavor.

A Taste of Koko

As the guest of the barbecue competition, I had to try both Chef Sonya’s steak and Chef Evan’s chicken. And the winner of the barbecue competition? Chef Sonya Cote – congratulations! The steak was so succulent and juicy with an incredible smoked flavor.
