Weekend Tea Party: 5 Blogging Tips From Austin Bloggers

Weekend Tea Party

It’s one of my goals this year to create and collaborate with creatives and bloggers. As a blogger, it’s often too convenient to hide behind a computer screen or a phone. I invited some of my favorite lady bloggers over to my house for a weekend tea party!

For the spread, I prepared Lipton’s new black and herbal varieties and improved green teas for a refreshing tea experience with bold and stimulating flavors, such as Irresistible Lady Lipton, Purple Acai Blueberry, Orange Passionfruit Jasmine and Berry Hibiscus. I wanted to highlight Lipton’s updated green teas that have a light, fresh taste, bright clearer color and delightful aroma so I picked up fresh tulips from Trader Joe’s. Trader Joe’s macarons and chocolate croissants were also perfect for the weekend tea party! Check out the full line-up of Lipton Green, Black and Herbal tea flavors here.

Jamie of C.R.A.F.T., Rebecca of R We There Yet Mom? , Jesse of jessecoulter.net, Heidi of Free Fun In Austin, and I had so much fun catching up, sipping Lipton’s new teas, and sharing blogging tips.

1. Write for yourself first!

If you find it interesting, helpful, and useful… most likely your audience will to!

Jesse Coulter2. Create a media kit even if your numbers aren’t huge.

Brands want to work with influential bloggers, and you can still be influential with a smaller following.

3. Take time to plan.

It makes all the difference. I used to be full speed ahead all the time, churning out blog posts like there was no tomorrow.  And yet, I was always stressed out.  I always felt behind and couldn’t seem to catch up. Implementing an editorial calendar changed everything.  It forced me to focus on the big projects first, and work on other tasks only as time allowed. It made such a difference in how I budgeted my time that I also added a calendar for scheduling all of my social media content.  Planning ahead (and giving myself hard deadlines) helped me to work smarter, rather than harder.

4. Style with props and backgrounds

For the past years I’ve been slowly collecting different plates, utensils, and serving platters for props in my photos. Faux backgrounds are my favorite. I have a faux marble table, wooden “picnic tables”, and different colored foam boards stashed next to my fridge. I wanted to showcase Lipton’s new colorful packaging with fresh tulips and macarons against a white backdrop.

5. It’s okay to hire help.

My biggest piece of advice that is helping me right now (and has taken me YEARS to get there)- If you have gotten to the point where you have too much work to get it done, delegate what you don’t like doing.  In other words, if you hate making pins, or scheduling social, or looking for advertising – hire someone who does a better job at it than you can do, freeing up your time to do what you are passionate about.
