You Can Now Eat Kangaroo & Rattlesnake At Lonesome Dove Austin

June 27, 2015

Fifteen years following the debut of Lonesome Dove Western Bistro in the historic stockyard district in Ft. Worth, TX, Chef Tim Love now brings his signature urban western cuisine to the heart of downtown Austin at 4th and Colorado (originally Kenichi). The menu designed by Chef Love is influenced by all of the ingredients and cultures that have been a part of the West since the first adventure began on the Goodnight-Loving and Chisholm Trails, with an added level of modern sophistication.

You can find wild game options such as kangaroo, wild boar, rabbit, rattlesnake, elk, guinea fowl, and rabbit. More tame options include quail, snapper, crawfish, lamb, and blue crabs.

This restaurant may not be meant for everyone. I did try all of the exotic meats but I’m personally not a fan of gamey meats. Particularly did not enjoy the smell of elk, and desperately needed a pair of cowboy boots. I did love the wild boar ribs!

Kangaroo Carpaccio Nachos

Kangaroo Carpaccio Nachos

Avocado-corn salad with huckleberry demi-glace. Couldn’t really taste the flavor of the kangaroo because the avacado-corn salad overpowered the nacho but the texture was like beef carpaccio.

Rabbit Rattlesnake Sausage

Rabbit-Rattlesnake Sausage

Manchego rosti, and crème fraîche. Enjoyed the sausage with the crispy potato hash.

Wild Boar Ribs

Wild Boar Ribs

Lonesome Dove BBQ sauce and pickled chilies. LOVED the boar ribs! Saucy, sticky, and fall-off-the-bone tender.

Crispy Soft Shell Crawfish
