Culinary Dropout opens officially today at Domain NORTHSIDE! I went last week to preview the space and Culinary Dropout has the coolest patio to hang out with live music, ping pong table, fuse ball, and bean bag toss.
Culinary Dropout is the fourth restaurant concept by restaurateur Sam Fox to open in Austin, joining the wildly successful True Food Kitchen and North Italia restaurants, along with next-door neighbor, Flower Child.

The handcrafted cocktails are made with regional ingredients and Culinary Dropout curates a killer lineup of local beer and wine. But let’s talk about the food. The fried chicken is the best that I’ve had in Austin recently and I’m still craving the Thai chile chicken wings. I’m all about a spot with fun vibes, great food, and cold cocktails – Culinary Dropout is my newest obsession!
This is what I came back for. I got to sample the fried chicken during their pre-opening and it was incredible. The chicken is moist and crispy with a honey drizzle, served with mashed potatoes a buttermilk biscuit.
THAI CHILE CHICKEN WINGS
I ended up loving the Thai Chile Chicken Wings even more. If you don’t like saucy chicken wings like I do, you probably won’t like these. The chicken wings are dressed in a Thai chili sauce with crushed cashews, toasted sesame, and tossed with cabbage. Finger lickin’ good!
BUTTERNUT SQUASH & KALE SALAD
A salad that is healthy and delicious at the same time. Pear, fried brussels sprout, goat cheese, pecan with caramelized honey vinaigrette. You also have the option to add smoked salmon or chicken for $5 extra.
The antipasta is great way to start your meal or if you’re just hanging out. Choose from meats, cheese and snacks like prosciutto deviled eggs, korean-style brussels sprouts, or cheddar pork cracklings.
A great dinner option is the roasted salmon with cauliflower, snow pea, charred scallion, and black rice.
