Maiko Sushi Lounge is the dream and vision to have an establishment that is both hip and authentic with a refreshing atmosphere high in energy and dedication.

The food is a compilation of east meets west, giving you a fusion of the best of both cultures.

I came across Maiko Sushi actually coming back from a VIP event from Kenichi. They’re right down the street from one another. Noting that they had happy hour from 3pm to close, I made a mental note to come back and check it out. Which I did. Actually I came back twice in the same week. Once for happy hour and once for lunch. Lunch with Mike was originally planned at Kenichi since their mention of a lunch menu on Twitter but apparently hasn’t begun yet.

I was pleasantly surprised since I’ve never heard of this place. I don’t think they have PR or a Facebook page. The sushi is fresh and the people are nice!

Happy Hour
Fried calamari. Lightly fried tentacles and rings coated with a sesame batter. Served with onion rings, and a sambal miso sauce. $4

Warehouse district6.25

Salmon, tuna, white fish, avocado and masago rolled up with sushi rice and black seaweed.

The fish is very fresh and the rice has the perfect consistency.

I highly recommend this roll if you like the clean taste of fish without any creamy sauces or crunchy tempura flakes.

Black dragon 6.75/12

Unagi and jalapeno roll topped with black pepper tuna and eel sauce on top.

I really enjoyed this roll a lot more than I thought I would. I typically dislike unagi. The little bones and skin ruins the palate for me but this unagi was bone-free!

If you’re not a fan of spicy, don’t worry. The jalapeno add more of a crunchy and refreshing texture rather than a spicy kick.

And the spotlight of this roll would be the black pepper tuna. It’s smoky and adds another dimension to the regulate unagi roll.

Chroshi’s Fire 6.75

Lightly fried tempura shrimp topped with spicy tuna, tempura flakes. Smothered with spicy mayo.

This was my friends favorite roll!

Lunch

House Salad. Torn romaine lettuce with cucumbers, shredded carrots, and purple cabbage. Dressed with a carrot ginger dressing. I love the homemade carrot ginger dressing!

Miso Soup.

Light broth with scallions, tofu and wakame.

Lunch Sashimi 18. 10 pieces of chef’s choice sashimi.
Chicken Katsu Bento Box (10$). Panko fried chicken breast with tonkatsu sauce. Comes with 3 pieces of spicy tuna roll, vegetable spring roll, chicken gyoza, miso soup, house salad, and vegetable fried rice. This is an incredible deal considering the amount of food you get!

Maiko’s Sushi also has wagyu beef hot rock (18) which is thinly sliced well-marbled beef served by table side cooking with garlic butter and citrus ponzu. I did not order this but from the looks of it, it looks amazing and smells amazing!
