Summer is officially here and I’m in full summer vacation mode. Austin is unbearably hot and humid during the summer so I’m looking for anywhere that’s mildly cooler with less humidity.

Here are the six best summer vacations worth jetting off to!
1. FOR THE ADVENTURE JUNKIE: ICELAND
I went to Iceland this February and it was the most adventurous vacation I’ve ever had with several near-death experiences (read about it on my 7-Day Iceland Ring Road Itinerary). We drove a manual camper van on the Ring Road around the entire country in 7 days. If you like hiking, waterfalls, and everything nature, you’ll love Iceland. Iceland is truly remarkable and you’ll feel transported to a different planet. When we went in February, Iceland was snowed over but in the summer, Iceland is beautiful and everything is in bloom.
2. FOR THE AMUSEMENT PARK FAN: UNIVERSAL ORLANDO
There are 3 parks at Universal Orlando: Universal Studios Floridaâ„¢, Universal’s Islands of Adventureâ„¢, and Universal’s Volcano Bay. Universal’s Islands of Adventure has the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and Jurassic Park River Adventure, and Universal Studios Florida just got the new Fast & Furious – Supercharged! I spent one day alone floating on the lazy river at Volcano Bay (pictured above)!

3. FOR THE BEACH LOVER: PUERTO VALLARTA
I just got back from a 7-day vacation at Casa Velas in Puerto Vallarta and loved it! Puerto Vallarta is where the jungle meets the beach so you get a taste of both with incredible Mexican cuisine.
4. FOR THE CULTURE SEEKER: NEW MEXICO
Walking with alpacas on the darling property in Albuquerque, Los Poblanos, was such a special experience. We drove the car to Sante Fe and spent a couple of days exploring all the art galleries on Canyon Road and eating the most delicious meal at La Choza (I still dream of those blue corn enchiladas and sopapillas). Next spot was Tao where we slept under the stars in intimate airstreams! If you’re looking for a cultural road trip, New Mexico is your summer vacation!
5. FOR THE NATURE EXPLORER: LAKE TAHOE
The weather in Lake Tahoe during the summer is perfection making it perfect for kayaking on the lake and nature walks. You might even be able to catch a little leftover winter snow on the slopes!

6. FOR THE TACO LOVER: MEXICO CITY
Originally this was going to be a ‘5 summer vacations to book right now’ list but I just landed in Mexico City for a 2-week vacation and I LOVE it here. It’s around the 70’s with a low of 55 at night with absolutely no humidity. Yep, NO HUMIDITY. I’m seriously considering getting an apartment here every summer to get away from the humidity in Austin. Oh, and I’ve been a late night taco diet every night here.
