5-Minute Golden Milk Recipe

Golden milk, also known as turmeric milk, is all the rage nowadays. You might have seen it on the menu as golden milk latte, turmeric milk, even golden mylk (yes that is with a ‘y’).

I first fell in love with golden milk at Josephine House in Austin – they add espresso to it and call it iced goldeneye for $8 a glass. Pricey, right? So why not make it at home? Golden milk can be served plain over ice but I like mine with a shot of espresso in the morning. After a long day of restaurant tastings and my stomach needs to settle, I like sipping on a warm cup of golden milk before bedtime. If you like chai, you’ll like golden milk!

WHAT’S GAIA GOLDEN MILK?

Gaia Herbs Golden Milk is made with organic Turmeric and Ashwagandha and is based on the traditional Ayurvedic recipe that has been savored for centuries. Within the ancient branch of medicine in India known as Ayurveda, Golden Milk is a tonic that’s meant to be nourishing, while also tasting delicious.

Golden Milk takes its yellow color from turmeric powder, which is then combined with other traditional Ayurvedic herbs like black pepper, cardamom, vanilla, and Ashwagandha.

WHAT’S GOLDEN MILK?

Golden milk is a popular healthy spiced Indian drink with a yellow color that can be made iced or hot for a cozy sip. Usually made with a dairy-free milk like canned coconut milk, cashew, or almond milk, golden milk is also naturally gluten-free! Golden milk is popular because it boosts the immune system.

WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF GOLDEN MILK?

Golden milk is made of three primary ingredients: ground turmeric, black pepper, and coconut oil. Sounds gross right? Well here’s why these three ingredients are important.

TURMERIC

This anti-inflammatory spice has many antioxidant properties that protect against a number of human diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s. Turmeric also has antidepressant properties, which can lead to better moods, less stress, less joint pain, better sleep, and improved brain health. Fresh turmeric root can be used in juices and smoothies too.

BLACK PEPPER

Traditionally paired with Turmeric to support absorption, black pepper is the active ingredient and adds a hint of spiciness.* This herb is very common in Ayurveda, and it is traditionally considered to be a hot, pungent herb. As such, it stokes digestive fire, called agni, by promoting the natural release of digestive secretions.* It was actually called the “King of Spices.”

COCONUT OIL

Coconut oil helps with digestion and gut health and can raise your good cholesterol, HDL.
