Yaya Cafe (Austin, TX)

Sharing is caring!

A newly opened family operated restaurant serving up local Vietnamese cuisine, teas, and shaved ice that is located right by the University of Texas at Austin. Opened up by a group of UT graduates who have a passion for food, specially pho and shaved ice. Ran by the same family who started up Fresh Off the Truck food truck in Austin.
Yaya Cafe.

Pho.

Steaming bowl of rice noodles in a delicious beef broth and topped with thinly sliced brisket, onions, chives, and my choice of thai basil and bean sprouts.

Not the best bowl of pho that I’ve had in Austin. Is it a bit on the pricer side due to the smallness of the bowl. Great for students who want a bowl of pho in walking distance but I’d head further down Lamar to Pho Saigon or Pho Dan.

 Banh Mi.

The signature vietnamese cold cut sandwich. Unfortunately this was a pass for me. I prefer my banh mi bread freshly toasted, heavy slathered with liver paste and stuffed full of meat.

I hardly tasted any liver pasta and there were more pickled veggies than barbecue meat.

Mango Shaved Ice.

Huge portions. Freshly cut fruit of your choice (strawberry, mango, and berries) and your choice of ice cream (vanilla, strawberry and green tea) over a bed of shaved ice and condensed milk.

I plan on coming back to Yaya Cafe for the Texas size shaved ice. It’s suppose to feed 5 to 6 people! The regular size shaved ice was about a pint of ice cream sooo I’m guessing the Texas size is 4 or 5 pints worth of ice cream??
