Weekend Getaway To Surfside Beach

July 24, 2012

Sharing is caring!

The mister and I have customarily made a trip to Surfside Beach in the past 2 years and this summer was no different. We were feeling a bit lazy this year but my friend David, who already left for Asia and will not be returning, requested to visit a Texas beach. Our crew included five misters and one  misses, me. 6 people total, which turned out perfect. 2 in charge of fishing and 4 in charge of crabbing.

Our beach house was incredibly cute! We nearly couldn’t go because all the houses were booked in that area for that weekend but luckily there was a cancellation. I’ve always wanted to live in a triangular house! It looks rather small on the outside but it was spacious on the inside. Almost makes you wonder how it can sleep 7 people.

And the beach was our backyard!

Crabbing at Surfside, Texas

Leading the crabbing team to the waters, I showed the guys how to tie a piece of chicken into the net, drop it into the water, wait 5 minutes, and viola, a crab. They didn’t believe me. Until there really was a crab at end of the net 5 minutes later. We totally brought in the dough that day versus the fishing team. 20 crabs baby!

The second day we didn’t have much luck crabbing but look who I found!

The day consisted mostly of exploring, watching the guys fish, eating raw & alive shrimp for the first time, and setting crabs free at night.

My improvised freshly caught fish over the grill. Putting them on a skewer makes it super easy to grill over the fire.

Meet my new dinner pet, George! I can’t say he was equally thrilled be my friend but I did set him free later that night only to find him captured again in the morning at the bottom of a bucket by our next door neighbors.

Ate twice at my favorite restaurant in the area (there’s only 3 places), Red Snapper Inn. The soft shell crab and oyster po boys are a must!

Until next summer, Surfside!
