Pumpkin Picking, Texas, Elgin Texas

Last weekend we took advantage of the beautiful Austin weather and headed East for a quintessential fall activity: pumpkin picking! It was the perfect Saturday afternoon trip.  We drove to Elgin Christmas Tree farm, which is about half an hour east of Austin. The farm was pretty packed with other locals and city escapees but it was the was the perfect time to visit the pumpkin patch.

Elgin Christmas Tree Farm is Elgin’s original choose and cut tree farm. They have the largest selection of Christmas trees in Central Texas with 7,000 Christmas trees! We had fun exploring the farm, taking a spooky hay ride, pumpkin painting, pony rides, visiting farm animals, and pumpkin picking.

The trip wouldn’t be complete without some good ol’ Texas style barbecue. Recognized as one oft he best barbecue restaurants in the Southwest, Southside Market is home to the original Elgin hot sausage. It’s spicy with a peppery kick. If you’re in Elgin Texas, make sure to stop in for the traditional rustic atmosphere, huge pits, sausage and brisket.
