Crown Royal Maple tasting

Crown Royal has added another branch to the family tree with the announcement of the brand’s first foray into the rapidly growing flavored whisky category – Crown Royal Maple Finished. Inspired by the heritage and authenticity of the maple tree, Crown Royal Maple Finished begins with the legendary taste of Crown Royal whisky. The liquid then incorporates a touch of natural maple flavor that’s enhanced through a proprietary maple toasted oak finishing process for added smoothness.  I was invited by Crown Royal to a special media event in Austin to try out the new liquor and I have to say I am a fan! I have never liked the strong bitter taste of whiskey so was rather tentative in trying the feature drinks. The bartender warmed me up to trying a drink featuring Crown Royal maple and I was surprised on how smooth the drink was.

Crown Royal Master of Whisky Teresa Menendez led a tasting of the new Maple product and local mixologist Brandon Turner prepared a great cocktail (The Crown Maple Old Fashioned) and shot (Maple Champion).

We were then invited to get into the action by trying our hand at the shaker and creating a Crown Royal Maple shots of our own. I hardly know anything about drinks so my friend, Sia Mac, create a sht with Crown Royal and named it A Taste of Koko with the tribute “Wherever you go, go with all your heart”. Little did we know we would take 2nd place in the Crown Royal shot contest! We were awarded a custom Gibson N-225 guitar that won’t even be released to the public until Feb. The guitar retails for more than $2,000 and is finished in Maple wood!
