Situated a short 45 minutes out of Austin (20 minutes if you’re coming from San Marcos) this Central Texas town has a vibrant arts community and beautiful natural scenery with something for everyone.

Whether you’re looking to shop at Wimberley Square, swim in spring fed waters of Jacob’s Well or Blue Hole Regional Park. There are tons of fun things to do and outdoor activities whether golfing, birding, or simply going on a walk in Downtown Wimberley. Alternatively, you could simply eat your way through Wimberley and find yourself a hidden gem of a restaurant. Regardless of what you do on your visit, you won’t be disappointed.

Folks from all around the state come over to Wimberley each summer to enjoy the freshwater swimming holes.

Jacob’s Well Natural Area

One of the most popular destinations in Wimberley is Jacob’s Well Natural Area, a swimming hole surrounded by ancient Cypress trees. Jacob’s Well has a steady 68°F water temperature, with the main cave spanning 3,341 feet, making it one of the longest underwater cave systems in the Lone Star State. This water feeds into the Blanco River.

Blue Hole Regional Park

Blue Hole Regional Park is one of the best things to do in Wimberly, Texas. The park is home to a large spring-fed swimming hole that is popular with locals and visitors alike. The swimming hole is surrounded by limestone cliffs and is a great place to cool off with its shady grass on a hot day. With the heat, a dip in the swimming area during summer means crowds. There are also hiking trails and picnic areas at the park.

Outdoor Activities in Wimberley

For those who enjoy the outdoors, Old Baldy is a must-visit. For the magnificent 360-degree vistas of the cedar, cactus, wildflowers, and more, the 221 steps to the top are well worth the climb. Golfers will want to head over to the Quicksand Golf Course, where you can enjoy a round of golf in a beautiful natural setting. If you’re playing in Quicksand Golf Course, note the potential side trip to Cypress Falls Swimming Hole, or just drop the family off and hit the links. Wimberly is perfect for an outdoor getaway or day trip from Austin or San Antonio.

Wimberley Square (aka Downtown Wimberley) is a charming complex with a variety of shops and restaurants, as well as wine tasting rooms and art galleries. The square is situated next to the Blanco River, and on weekends it comes to life with live music and entertainment. Ceremony Botanical Studio is one of my favorite plant stores is in this square. The food spot here will be for breakfast people over at Wimberley Cafe.

  • Kiss the Cook- kitchenware shop.
  • Los Olivos Market Wimberley- gourmet goods from Spain that have great olive oil.

  • Shop the Tree House- home decor store with other gift ideas for kids and even pets.
  • The Farmloft- boho boutique with tons of t-shirts

Emily Ann Theatre and Gardens

While in town be sure to check out the Emily Ann Theatre and Gardens. This is the epicenter for art and theater in Wimberley featuring local artists, with indoor and outdoor stages, a Veterans Memorial Plaza, a children’s memorial, and more. They host numerous events throughout the year, including Shakespeare Under The Stars, drama classes, summer programs, and a butterfly festival. If you’re looking for more, head south of Blue Hole, on Ranch Road is a line of art galleries.

Wimberley Market Days is located in the historic district of Wimberley, Texas, and is a great place to find locally produced foods and goods. The market is open from 9 am-1 pm and offers a wide variety of items, including produce, honey, eggs, artisan bread, tamales, soaps, and much more. In addition to the fabulous food offerings, Wimberley Market Days also features live music from local musicians.
