Hye is an unincorporated community in western Blanco County, Texas, United States. It sits between Fredericksburg and Johnson City. From San Antonio, it’s a short 1 hour and 15 minutes, making it a great Texas Escape.
It is said that its population of 149, with people per square mile. Its nearest locations include Johnson City and Stonewall in Gillespie County.

Garrison Brothers Distillery
Bourbon after a stressful day is always a good idea with Garrison Brothers Distill located in Hye, Texas. It is known as the first Bourbon distillery outside of Kentucky. Drinking a glass of their Bourbon after a long day is an experience. They only use the highest quality, gourmet ingredients in every bottle. With their techniques to extract all the flavor possible from their white oak barrels, they have created nectar that is darker, richer, and fuller than any bourbon on the market. Hye General Store / Post Office
Hye General Store and Hye Post Office have a rich history that dates back to 1880. Their founder, Hiram G. Brown, first constructed the general store and home there. After six years, he opened a post office, too. After it came in, other businesses began in the area, including a gristmill and a blacksmith shop. In 1906 a cotton gin was established at Hye and continued to operate until 1945.
Hiram G. Brown’s Hye Post Office continues to be a part of history as years go by. In 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson made headlines by appointing Lawrence F. O’Brien as Postmaster General of the United States of America. Johnson, also known as LBJ, is a local who grew up in town. Despite being listed as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in the state archives, the Hye General Store and Post Office is still operating as it did. The historical Post Office is a perfect location for intimate dinner parties, with a functional kitchen and bar for your use. Customers can also dine on the patio.

Calais Winery is known for its combination of French heritage and love for Texas. Founder Benjamin Calais started the winery in Dallas, Texas, in 2008 so that he could fulfill his dream of making great wine and sharing it with others. Now, the modern winery is a replica of a traditional “wine cave” cut into the side of a hill and can be found not far from Hye, Texas.
