Hye General Store and Hye Post Office have a rich history that dates back to 1880. Their founder, Hiram G. Brown, first constructed the general store and home there. After six years, he opened a post office, too. After it came in, other businesses began in the area, including a gristmill and a blacksmith shop. In 1906 a cotton gin was established at Hye and continued to operate until 1945.

Hiram G. Brown’s Hye Post Office continues to be a part of history as years go by. In 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson made headlines by appointing Lawrence F. O’Brien as Postmaster General of the United States of America. Johnson, also known as LBJ, is a local who grew up in town. Despite being listed as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in the state archives, the Hye General Store and Post Office is still operating as it did. The historical Post Office is a perfect location for intimate dinner parties, with a functional kitchen and bar for your use. Customers can also dine on the patio.
