Walden Retreats
The newest glamping spot near Austin is Walden Retreats, a luxury camping getaway located in Johnson City that provides guests with an outdoor experience without compromising comfort. The 96-acre property now features 7 suites, 8 studios, an event pavilion designed by Michael Hsu Office of Architecture, and a welcoming lobby featuring a curated general store – all in the heart of the Texas Hill Country.
The tents combine the amenities of a luxury hotel with the adventure of camping outdoors. Each bespoke tent, designed and curated by Marra Home, has a distinct color palette and includes custom furniture and handmade textiles from artisans around the world. The rooms are equipped with central heat and air conditioning, running water, a Casper king size bed with Kassatex linens, custom Luna Zorro bathrobes, and a clawfoot bathtub. Retreat On The Hill
Stargazing in a clear bubble dome with a 360 degree view of Texas Hill Country overlooking Lake LBJ and Lake Marble Falls after taking a hot outdoor shower. Hozhoni on the Hill is one of the only clear bubble domes in Texas without having to do the 6-7 hour drive to Terlingua.
Located about a hour from downtown Austin, Hozhoni on the Hill is perched on the tallest hilltop in the area with majestic 360 degree views of the Texas Hill Country. The Yurtopian
The Yurtopian (previously Yurtopia) is located in Wimberley, just under a one hour drive from Austin. You can choose from remote hilltop yurts or riverbluff community yurts:
Remote hilltop yurts
These little sanctuaries are on a “hilltop” and are designed for those looking for a remote hideaway in the woods. Each yurt is situated for maximum privacy with more than 300 feet of woods in between each yurt territory. Each yurt is climate-controlled and features an outdoor kitchen, bathroom, hot tub, fire pit, and rooftop deck. There are no shared amenities. Unlike our RiverBluff Communal Yurts, our Remote Hilltop Yurts do not have river access.
Riverbluff Community Yurts
The RiverBluff yurts are designed to give that “living well in community” feeling. It’s the perfect mix of private sleeping quarters and bathroom space combined with a fun communal playground in the Texas Hill Country.
These three yurts each have their own private bathroom & yard area, while situated roughly 50 feet apart. Shared amenities include large fire pit, dining yurt, 2 grills, outdoor seating, corn hole and 2 hot tubs on a 3.5 acre territory. Enjoy 100 feet of Blanco River access for river sitting.
We stayed in the hilltop yurts and I was surprised by how much I loved the experience at Yurtopia. I loved how secluded each yurt is from each other, the outdoor kitchen made it easy to make our own food, stargazing deck, and soaking in the hot tub at night with the fire pit.

Flophouze
One of my favorite glamping getaways near Austin is Flophouze in Round Top. Just a one hour drive from Austin, Round Top is the vintage shopping capital of the world and hosts several Antique Shows annually.
Flophouze has six different renovated shipping containers that start at $175/night and a farmhouze that sleeps 10 for $550 a night. I love this glamping rental experience because of the serene view of Texas farmland – it’s quiet with just the mooing of cows. I also love soaking in the hot tub at night while seeing all the stars above.

Mystic Quarry
Mystic Quarry is one of the first glamping properties outside of Austin – I glamped in a tipi when they first opened 3 years and it was exciting to visit recently and see how much they’ve developed to the property. We stayed in a tiny house on the first name and in a safari lodge the second night (pictured above) and LOVED it.
Mystic Quarry is one of my favorite Austin glamping properties because of its close proximity to Canyon Lake and 10 minutes from Wimberley town square. There’s also so much to do on the property – swimming pool, sky deck, fire pits, and more.

Talula Mesa
I LOVE how Talula Mesa designed their cabins with a floor-to-ceiling design so you can have a full view of Texas Hill Country and you feel immersed in nature. The cabins are then wrapped in canvas so you feel like you’re glamping in a tent but with a structurally sound experience.

Skybox Cabins is located north of Austin in Glen Rose with these unique glamping options: The Birdhouse, Hive, Nest & glamping tents. We stayed in The Nest (pictured above) that’s a treehouse with a bohemian bungalow – the nest overlooks Texas Hill Country.

I was looking for somewhere to stay near Brenham after eating at TRUTH BBQ and stumbled upon these dome suites. They look tiny online but they’re actually really spacious on the inside with a full-size queen bed, bathroom, kitchen and dining area.
