What is Butterbeer?
But first, let’s talk about what is butterbeer? If you’ve watched any of the Happy Potter movies, you would have learned about this popular beverage that they drink throughout the books and movies. Butterbeer tastes like cream soda and butterscotch with a sweet, forthy topping. There’s no actual beer in butterbeer despite its name and it’s very sweet.
1. Cold Butterbeer
Let’s start with the classic cold butterbeer – sweet and carbonated with a frothy finish. To me, it tastes like cream soda! Dangerously addicting… You can even order it in a take-home souvenir cup to remember your trip to Universal Orlando Resort.
This was my first sip of butterbeer and I immediately felt transported to Hogwarts!

2. Frozen Butterbeer
If you’re visiting Universal Studios during the summer when the humidity is 100%, frozen butterbeer is a lifesaver. If you like slushies, you’ll love frozen butterbeer. It comes with a little topping of whipped cream on top.

3. Hot butterbeer
Not all the butterbeer stands sell hot butterbeer but you can find it at the Three Broomsticks restaurant. It’s a comforting, warm cup of caramel goodness!

4. Butterbeer soft serve
You have to try butterbeer in frozen version – aka butterbeer ice cream/soft serve!
Go to Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlour in Diagon Alley™. It’s a vanilla soft serve base with swirls of butterscotch and toffee (left cone). The hardest decision you’ll have to make it if you want in a cup, waffle cone, or souvenir glass.

5. Butterbeer potted cream
Butterbeer potted cream is my second favorite form of butterbeer. It’s silky and smooth with a butterscotch flavor that’s not cloyingly sweet. The pudding is served cold in a glass jar at Leaky Cauldron that you can take with you.

6. Butterbeer fudge
Butterbeer even comes in fudge form that’s perfect to take a little butterbeer back home! You can find butterbeer fudge at the Hogsmeade sweet shop in Hogsmeade.
